Welcome to the Outreach Website for the

2011 MARYLAND STATE HAZARD MITIGATION PLAN UPDATE

This site is dedicated to receiving input from Marylanders on what you think you are at greatest risk for and how Maryland Government should act in order to prevent disasters. These disaster prevention techniques are determined through a process that is determined by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), which is recorded in this plan. This plan undergoes a mandatory update every three years in order to incorporate the most recent data, and to determine what actions and programs should be taken over the next three years in order to mitigate the effects of natural hazards.

On this website, you'll find hazard maps sharing what we have determined to be the greatest threats to the state, ranked according to county, a survey, which will allow you to provide your thoughts on what we, the Maryland Emergency Management Agency, should do in order to reduce the threat to life and property. For those who would like to review and comment on the draft plan, you will find a copy of that document below. We are also conducting numerous "Open Houses" by region. At the bottom of this page, you will find dates and locations of open forums that will discuss the hazards Marylanders face, and what actions need to be taken to reduce the effects of these hazards.

We hope you'll take the time to contribute to this plan update.

Please check back on this site in mid-August for an update on the final plan. Thanks for your interest and concern in preparing, responding, recovering and mitigating Maryland's priority natural hazards.

GIVE US YOUR OPINIONS

We are interested in what you have to say, and would like your input on what you feel you are most vulnerable to; the following survey was designed to do just that. Your input will help shape how your government approaches the task of reducing your risk to natural disasters.

Additionally, if you would like to come and discuss the plan update in person, we are holding Regional Open Houses. These will be a public forum allowing for an open discussion of the hazards facing the community, and how each region thinks it needs to be addressed. These suggestions will be incorporated into the state plan in a Regional Outlook segment. We hope you will come visit us!!
